What is more important than eating great food! France is well-known for it great cuisine, and we need to treat ourselves with palatable dishes. A nice restaurant is also the best place to meet friends and families when they come for a visit! After staying in Toulouse for a semester, I have explored a couple of nice restaurants that are worth to go!
Meet the Meat – Excellent French cuisine in a decent price
To introduce your friends and parents with nice French food for the first time, Meet the Meat is the best place to go for! The main dish is massive and two-course lunch and dinner menu are only 12.5 and 18 euros per person respectively. For the main dish, you can choose for beef tartare, grilled duck breast and lamb shank. You can pair the meat up with two sides. Ratatouille and gratin dauphinois are recommended by the restaurant!
I am a big fan of their grilled duck breast. Normally, I tend to order ‘bien cuit’ when I eat out as It is quite often the chefs might overcook it and the meat becomes very hard to chew. In Meet the Meat, the duck breast remains succulent and tender. Other recommendations from the house are lamb shank and salmon. Beef tartare is also one of their specialty for daring connoisseurs.

Home Sweet Café – Best café for brunch, coffee breaks and study etc.
I always crave for brunch, not mentioning moving to Toulouse for a year, that could a headache. I bumped into this fancy coffee shop in November last year and it becomes my new ‘it’ place for coffee breaks and brunch!
Can you imagine brunch could be served as a 2-course meal? Home Sweet Café can! For drinks, you will have a cup of coffee and a glass of orange juice! Followed by, freshly made bagels with dried tomatoes and cream cheese are placed against salad and baked potatoes cubes. After you finished you ‘main’, you will have a choice of 5 to 7 different desserts, ranging from pancakes, cheesecake and carrot-cake! There are also huge tables for group projects and study! I strongly recommend this café to try out!

Dip’s Tea – Cakes and tea for a Sunday chill-out
Salon de thé (Tea House) is always a good alternative for cafés. There are plenty of options in France! I recommend Dip’s Tea as they have the best cake and tea. Their raspberry and pistachio or raspberry and lime cheesecake are my ‘must-haves’. I personally avoid having cakes that are too sweet; yet the zesty, fruity taste of the raspberry and lime go along well with the sweetness of the cheesecake. Speaking about tea, I tried their red, black and fruit tea, they all are aromatic and light, which pair up really well with the cake.

Le Bibent – Michelin’s restaurant, fine-dining experience
Michelin has always been a reference for great restaurant, though they are pricy. However, lunch menus at Le Bibent are fairly wallet-friendly. Their set lunch is around 35 euros and the quality of food is great! It is the perfect location to give your parents and friends the experience of French exquisite dining. Indeed, what makes this restaurant exceptional is its ornate décor. Built in the 1900s, the building was listed as a Monuments Historiques for its interior. Do remember to bring your phone or camera with you, you need that to snaps so “Instagramable” photographs!

Le Formose – An authentic taste of Chinese food
A taste from home is important! In Glasgow, there are quite a lot of choices. Yet, finding an authentic Chinese restaurant is quite a difficult task in Toulouse. Certainly, Le Formose does not fail to impress. My personal recommendations from the restaurant are sweet and sour pork, wanton soup and cantonese fried rice are beyond excellent! In terms of price, it is very student-friendly. Lunch menu is around 9 euros while dinner is around 12-14 euros per person.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars
Fufu – A contemporary twist to traditional Japanese flavours!
A bowl of ramen is always the best comfort food. Nicely prepared noodles in a rich broth, served with ramen eggs, pork and vegetables, Fufu is the new Japanese ramen shop in Toulouse. Since it’s opening, the restaurant has been attracting flocks of customers and great feedbacks. Therefore, if you want to eat “sur place”, you might have to queue for a while. Yet, it’s worth it! Apart from ramen, fried rice and gyozas are also recommended! If you are seeking for some Japanese food yet don’t want to get out from the flat, you can order it on Deliveroo as well!
